Unbury the Burden began as a book — and became a movement.
After the sudden passing of her mother in 2019, founder Hollie McEvoy discovered how much grief is compounded by logistics. The paperwork, passwords, accounts, and unanswered questions felt endless — and she realized most families face the same chaos.
Determined to turn pain into purpose, Hollie created Unbury the Burden to help others avoid that experience. What started as her personal story is now a growing nonprofit that empowers families to prepare with peace, not panic.

Hollie McEvoy is a wife, mother, and daughter who believes in doing the hard things — especially the ones most people avoid. Raised in the insurance world, she learned early that preparation matters. But it wasn’t until experiencing sudden loss that she understood how much isn’t covered by policies or plans.
Through Unbury the Burden, she has combined her professional background in financial planning and nonprofit development with her personal mission to help families plan ahead with clarity and compassion.
Hollie lives in Columbia, Missouri with her husband Morgan and their son Cole.
When Donna passed away unexpectedly in 2019, the grief was immediate. But what followed was a flood of overwhelming questions — passwords, accounts, wishes, and important details that had never been written down. The weight of that experience opened Hollie’s eyes to something she had never fully understood: how unprepared most families are, and how heavy that burden becomes for the people left behind.
Donna’s loss inspired Hollie to turn her pain into purpose — first through the book Unbury the Burden, and now through a nonprofit built to help other families avoid that same heartbreak.
